Prime Real Estate Available in Bay Area

California's Governator has announced he is going to put Scott Peterson's home (aka San Quentin Prison) on the auction block. That should save the bankrupt Golden State. The State of California has run itself so far into debt that Gov. Schwarzenegger is going into the real estate business. The second most famous prison in the San Francisco Bay Area (Alcatraz being number one) will go on the auction block if the economic band-aids that are on a special ballot this month don't pass. Most Californians believe the governor is bluffing, but much stranger things have happened here on the left coast. So if you want your own personal residence, complete with "death chamber" (formerly known as the "gas chamber"), get your pennies together. You'll not only have a residence with a fabulous view of San Francisco across the Golden Gate, but you will be playing your part in saving the once-great profligate State of Kahleeforneea.

'Hawk, in the 1980's mario Cuomo tried the same sort of fiscal chicanery to balance the NY State budget. His trick was to sell state assets from one state agency to another, and show the sale as a profit on the balance sheet. The great Ray Kerrison exposed this sleight of hand in a series of articles. Ray is semi-retired now, and only writes about thorobred racing, and only occasionaly at that. Don't be surprised if Chez Peterson winds up being owned by the Galeeforneea Bureau of Water Mgmt.

Damn, Auguste. Now on top of everything you tell me we didn't even have an original idea. I gotta tell ya though, I had to visit a client at the prison once, and the view is only second to one--Alcatraz. Maybe all these years I've just been making bad choices about my living arrangements.

And before Andrew zaps me, I wasn't the trial attorney. I was called in to file an appeal. So there.

Sure Lawhawk, we all believe that. :oP

Prisons stink, no matter where they are. I've seen the inside of two (visiting clients) and I would never want to go back to either -- not even as an owner.

But Greg Gutfeld assures me that the showers are fabulous. Bring your own soap. I wonder what he means by that.

I lost my avatar somewhere in the computer wasteland, so I decided I would use a picture from my windows looking up at the rich folks on Russian Hill. Of course it only shows up when you expand the comments section.

Another of Mario's nothing-up-my-sleeve tricks was to raise "fees" as opposed to raising taxes. Permit fees, drivers licenses, plates, anything and everything that NY State provided for a fee was jacked up, every time the calendar passed by Jan 1. And the manhad the temerity during the campaign he lost to Pataki to hammer his "I haven't raised taxes in 8 years" fallacy. BTW, I was only in SF once as an engineer for UPS in '79. Had dinner at 'Tarantino's' on the wharf. Is it still there?

Auguste: Tarantino's is still very much there. It's one of the tourist sites that locals go to as well. Next time you're in town, try Scoma's. It's a little pricier, but it's less hectic. And if you are in the mood and want to stay near the The Wharf, make long advance reservations for Gary Danko. Gary is the former chef at the Ritz-Carlton, and in my humble opinion now has the finest restaurant in a city known for fine dining. My favorite restaurant in town is the mid-range Harris's Steak House. And it's only a block and a half from where I live.

Patti: Thanks for sticking with me. I have a mild form of sophomore Tourette's, so the jokes just sort of slip out.

US Artboy, tshillue, SQT and the rest of you are what make this fun. Patti even puts up with my sophomoric jokes (I think she may have set the bar a little high for me, but I'm grateful). I hope you will all be joining us regularly on this site.

And for those of you who are not familiar with Pennsylvania, Pithy is a town which is nearly as famous as Philly. It's short for Pithburgh. (Sorry, Patti)

And behold! I found my avatar!

'Hawk,
On my trip UPS booked an enigneer & I into the Holiday Inn near the wharf. So we stumbled on to Tarantino's by chance. What I remeber most was that we were seated along the side of the dining room that looked out to the GG. And when dinner started the bridge was clearly visible from the top of the towers right to the water. But when the check came you couldn't even see the road deck for the fog. So beautiful. As for the next time in town, let's just say if it took a quarter to go around the world, I couldn't get out of sight. But everything changes. And this time for the better.

Thumbs up on your upgraded status, Lawhawk!! Your genius is meant to be appreciated by the masses. Hey, do you think San Quentin would be too far of a commute if it were the new governor's mansion? The current mansion is more likely to sell than SQ and think of the extra accomadations for visiting politicians and dignitaries.
